Personally I think its to make more money by advertising the song in a way. By making a music video more people will want to watch it and might talk about it. It draws the audience in who might then start listening to other songs made by the same artist then buy the album.

There are many other reasons to make music videos. Some can be to shock, like Pink's 'Fucking Perfect', which shows a girl living a hard life and wanting to give up. Music videos like these can make people think twice about how they treat people, or their perspective of the world.
Another reason to make music video's can be to create controversy or to make a political statement. Artists might also take this opportunity to advertise a product. There are many reasons to make music videos, even if it isn't clear why.
3) How might an artist extend their income through having a music video?
Music videos invite more people to listen to the music by having something to watch as well as to just listen to. By having a good music video, it will make people want to share it more so more new people will be inclined to watch and listen.
